Good to find out about the Charity Navigator site. I am retired, with little money but plenty of free time to do arithmetic, and a quick survey of 10 well known eco organizations (arbitrary choices, so my statistics are skewed by whim) tells me that the average chief executive salary for this type of, um, charity is $303,000 per year. I have at one time or another given small amounts of money to several of the conservation/eco groups I selected, so I guess I bear a responsibility for a multitude of trees cut down and pulped so they may send me requests for yet more small donations. Mea culpa. I may have to reevaluate my occasional few dollars a year gift in the light of these executive salaries. But i suppose I shouldn't be churlish about it. These guys have to hold their heads up in society.
The President of Charity Navigator itself, which is technically not a charity, makes $149,000, for what it's worth.
Born and raised in upstate New York, traveled for a decade after college, lived in various places around the world, keeping a journal. Settled in Kyoto in 1980, moved to this mountainside above Lake Biwa in 1995. Started Pure Land Mountain in April 2002.
