WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?

"
It should surprise few readers that we think a vote that is seen—in America and the world at large—as a decisive 'No' vote on the Bush presidency is the best outcome."

"Meanwhile, America's image in the world, its capacity to persuade others that its interests are common interests, is lower than it has been in memory."

"There may be little Americans can do to atone for this presidency, which will stain our country's reputation for a long time. But the process of recovering our good name must begin somewhere, and the logical place is in the voting booth this Nov. 7."

Excerpts from The GOP Must Go
in The American Conservative(!!)

That excerpt says it all...

It is surprising that such would emanate from The American Conservative. Perhaps there is a god after all...

Curious - how/where do you as an ex-pat vote? At or through the US Embassy there? Absentee, mail-in ballot?

Jesus wasnt a liberal (the pic on your site, bottom of the left column), he believed in free will. Liberals and conservatives both HATE people making decisions for themselves. For a decision to be worth something, you had to be free to decide for yourself. Jesus would want you to help the poor, but he wouldnt want you to do it only because some liberals told you to and you have to pay taxes to them otherwise they are gonna throw you in jail.

He would never approve of throwing people in jail who make the wrong decisions and dont give their money up. Liberals force people to do the "right" things through government and thats plain WRONG. Jesus was not a liberal, he had morals. He was a libertarian.

We in Canada will be watching the election returns with much interest.

I wanna' know how aaron up there knows that Jesus was not a liberal? As for free-will, the far-right religious conservatives know nothing of the concept of free-will. They are all about legalism! The Jesus I know about and love, was not legalistic at all. Jesus was radical, however. He was radical about loving; something the religious fanatics of our day have missed because of all their non- free-will legalistic views.
I voted today. I voted for a democrat. We need a change!

Lets hope that whoever wins the elections will truly represent the majority of voting Americans when it comes to legislating change. We are sorely in need of vibrant, rational, moral leadership...people who deliver what they promise.

Here's to election results that justly reflect the diverse population of a true democracy.

And Aaron, as to Jesus, who held up a coin bearing Caesar's image and said "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's..." you think he was talking about donations?

Wow, considering the source. Pelosi's speech was extremely balanced and polite. While everyone celebrates, ever the politician, she gets it.

If you really want to understand the meaning of the ideas expressed in The American Conservative, you have to consider the source: it is a particular branch of conservativism known as the paleoconservatives, or paleocons, and as you may already know, they have been at war with the neocons from the getgo, for reasons which are explained below, compliments of wikipedia.

Paleocons argue that since human nature is limited and finite, any attempt to create a man-made utopia is headed for disaster and potential carnage. They also see social democracy, ideology, and managerial society as malevolent attempts to remake humanity. Instead, they lean toward tradition, family, cultural customs and religious institutions and classical learning to provide wisdom and guidance.

Paleocons question the supposition that European culture and mores can ever be transplanted or even forced upon non-white cultures, due to separate cultural heritages (read: whites are superior to non-whites). As a result, they openly oppose open immigration by non-Europeans, and their general disapproval of U.S. intervention overseas for the purposes of exporting democracy.

In other words, only Anglo-Saxons are allowed in the fallout shelter. Neo, Paleo, Oreo, whatever. I'm off to see Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, just to get my mind off of all this political stuff.

Thanks for the insight Mick; I noticed those guys were heavy on building fences. As to Borat, I wonder if the humor will come through in translation over here...
