HE WENT TO BED

"Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, a motherly but steely figure known by the nickname Queen Bee, knew that she needed help. But she wasn't quite sure what. At about 8 p.m., she spoke to Bush. 'Mr. President,' she said, 'we need your help. We need everything you've got.'

Bush, the governor later recalled, was reassuring. But the conversation was all a little vague. Blanco did not specifically ask for a massive intervention by the active-duty military. 'She wouldn't know the 82nd Airborne from the Harlem Boys' Choir,' said an official in the governor's office, who did not wish to be identified talking about his boss's conversations with the president. There are a number of steps Bush could have taken, short of a full-scale federal takeover, like ordering the military to take over the pitiful and (by now) largely broken emergency communications system throughout the region. But the president, who was in San Diego preparing to give a speech the next day on the war in Iraq, went to bed.'

And we learned this wek that he actually did not watch the storm or it's after-effects unfold like the rest of the world- his aids made a DVD for him to watch- before they told him his vacation was ending- what the???? He doesn't watch TV? How ill is he??? Press Conference two days ago the press actually asked him" When did you realize how Big the Hurricane was?" And he stumbled- and said"Monday was when it hit right?"....( no- it was Sunday ..but no one said anything- he kind of stumbled and stuttered through the rest of the questions)....cake with McCain- and the Federal Disaster orders were signed- before or after the cake? or golf?and he never watched TV to see if a Cat5 hit??!!...unreal...

I don't know...but it is a really good question....They were all disconnected from the event- Dick in ??fishing?..and Laura visiting shelter in Houston kept calling the Disaster "Corrina"...( and complaining that the Media had "painted such an awful picture of the disaster)...and Condi went shopping and bought shoes and went to Spamalot that stormy weekend...and then they set up a fake shelter photo op for her in Alabama-kind of like Bush's Plastic Turkey moment...This is so disturbing- the Disconnect....I talked with the Vets for Peace last week down in Covington,LA and they said it was just awful down there and that the Red Cross and FEMA were not coping well- They said it was the worst thing they had ever seen- that says alot- esp Iraqi vets saying that...( I sent them medical supplies, baby formula wanted to find out what they needed...and couldn't send what they really need- more medical people...)Thanks for posting about them and Micheal Moore on your site
